S-Adenosylmethionine increases hepatic glutathione levels in cats and dogs. Glutathione is a potent antioxidant that protects the liver from toxins and death. Low liver glutathione concentrations are common in dogs and cats with decreased liver function. Administration of S-Adenosylmethionine may improve glutathione levels in liver cells to help maintain and protect liver function. S-Adenosylmethionine may also be used in other areas of tissue oxidant injury and red blood cell fragility caused by certain toxins or drugs which are related to reduced glutathione concentrations. S-Adenosylmethionine also protects liver cells from cell death and may be useful in cell regeneration. S-Adenosylmethionine may also improve bile flow in cats. Dosage and Administration: Daily administration is based on 20 mg of S-adenosylmethionine/kg bodyweight.
