Château Léoville-Las-Cases is classified as a 2nd Growth, but can rightfully claim to produce wines equal and superior to some 1st growths. Léoville's label (Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases) doesn't mention the "Château" as a result of it's 18th century standing as not only the most important Château in St-Julien, but of all the Médoc. While firmer, and slower to mature than most St-Julien's, recently the wines have filled out and are not only elegant, but extremely powerful and concentrated. The 2006 is one of the stand outs from a vintage that has surprised many with its fruit weight and clear propensity to age.... » read more
